DIGITAL ART: My digital prints explore the hidden interconnections
between the visual and the written word. Or more specifically, how
pictures and narratives are intertwined in the telling of our
personal histories, but at the same time they subvert each other,
their union sometimes producing unexpected (even ironic) results.
PAINTING: My oils and acrylics are about action, energy, passion (“By passion the world is bound, by
passion too it is released” – reads the ancient Indian text). Painting
as an exaltation of being (direct, immediate, like a lyric poem – an
attempt to capture the moment).
Superficial world
Abandoning the chimera of three-dimensionality, the paintings are void
of any depth, just as the contemporary world is without depth. The
depths of the modern world and its subterranean hallways – the search
for meaning – have all become superficial in the contemporary world.
The painting has no hierarchies, no layers. Rather, it spreads over
the canvas like a rhizome, mostly on a monochromatic background.
Cracks and margins
Creating contrast through areas of white. White as crevices in the
clouds of color (“Letter”), which only intensify the colors. Breathing
air into the painting, but also cracks, pauses.
From “The Day We First Met” to “Waters of March”, where white is
present within the color network, to the triptych where they
appear to have absorbed the largest part of the painting. In these
three paintings (“Waves”, “Silk”, “Letter”) the centre is empty, like
a field of pure potential.
Blue desires
“Every star
on my paintings represents a desire”, says Van Gogh. In my work these
are the blue dots, which appear in several paintings. Pulsating
desires of cobalt blue. |
